Say it again, Sam!

sam_bowring.jpgThe undeniably funny Sam Bowring will headline an exciting night of rollicking good fun at Comedy on the Rox on Wednesday (August 13).

Suppporting Sam will be outstanding new talent Seamus McAlary and nine up-and-comers competing for the chance to win $5000 in Quest for the Best, Australia's richest open mic contest.

Sam (pictured left) began his comedy career as a 16-year-old and has been making people laugh ever since.

At the tender age of 28, he is already a 12-year veteran of the comedy scene, performing in pubs and clubs across Australia.

His performances at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival have won critical acclaim and he is a regular performer on radio (Triple J, 702) and television's Comedy Channel.

Critics have described him as ``ingenious'', having an ``immensely likable boyishness'' and earning ``well deserved laughs'' which has `the audience begging for more.''

Seamus McAlary (pictured below) is fast making a name for himself on the Sydney comedy scene after being a grand finalist in the 2006 Quest for the Best competition.

He is in demand on the circuit and his performances have been earning race reviews.

Heat#19 of Quest for the Best will be held on Wednesday.

The winner and runner-up of the heat will progress to the preliminary finals and stand a chance of wining $5000.

Sharing the Joy

Kiva - loans that change lives
Comedy on the Rox changes the world one laugh at a time, and now we also helping to change the world one loan at a time by supporting Kiva.org.
Kiva is a microfinancing organisation that enables individuals to give $25 loans to low-income entrepreneurs in the developing world. You've heard the story, "Give a person a fish and they eat for a day, give them a fishing rod and they eat for life"...

Why do we support Kiva?

esther_essien.jpgWe are gifted weekly with joy, fun, mirth and the removal of sorrow. These are the gifts we wish to share.
It's your entertainment dollar that helps Kiva lend money to people to buy the proverbial fishing rod so that they can make a living, expand their small businesses, and repay the loan.
The money repaid is then loaned to another person in need, and in this way your gift keeps on giving.
Since November 2007, Comedy on the Rox has made loans to one woman in Cambodia and three women in Nigeria. You can read Sam, Adesuwa, Esther (pictured on the left) and Helen's stories on our Kiva lender page, and find out how easy it is to make a difference in someone's life.
