Look out Adelaide! Here she comes

Comedy on the Rox's Kathryn Bendall is off to Adelaide in March with her first one-woman show Kath On A Hot Tin Roof. Directed by leading improv comic Rebecca De Unamuno, Kath On A Hot Tin Roof is the hilarious, poignant and ironic story of a suburban mother of three. Over 58 long hot summers, Kathryn has leapt from one hot tin roof to another, delerious most of the time and hanging on as long as she can. A very late bloomer on the comedy circuit, Kathryn draws on her life experiences including her sponsorship by an “Underbelly” crime figure into local government; an executive management career in a national financial institution while secreting her fear of flying, crossing bridges, snakes, toads and driving; and managing volunteers at Sydney 2000 Olympics, APEC and World Youth Day.Kathryn will stage her preview show at the Roxbury on Saturday February 21 at 6pm.

Audience FAQs

1. What time should I arrive at Comedy on the Rox?
We suggest that our guests plan to be at the Roxbury Hotel by 7.30pm. If you are intending to eat at the hotel bistro we suggest that you allow at least an additional 45 minutes.

2. What are parking arrangements for the Roxbury Hotel?
This venue is close to Glebe Point Road, Sydney University, high-density residential housing and other entertainment areas so we suggest that you also allow some time to locate street parking. As there is no specific parking for the hotel, it can be challenging at times - allow plenty of time to ensure that you arrive relaxed and ready for a fantastic night.

3. What can I expect as an audience member?
We’ll start the show promptly at 8.00pm with a professional comic who will act as the night's MC. After a 10-minute warm up the MC will introduce the open mic-ers (usually 6 in total) who will each do a 5-minute set. We ask our audience to note and vote - that is, to note that the comics include the 'word for the week' in their set, then vote for the funniest open mic-er of the night. Back to top

Some of the audience protocols are...

Be as supportive as possible; laugh and clap (doing stand-up comedy is as close to the fear of death as most people will ever get).

No heckling the new comics. Save it up for the professionals - the Headliner or the MC - they love it. However be warned - do it at your peril, they adore it when audiences take them on!

No mobile phones. It’s just rude when people are performing live - sometimes people forget that this isn’t TV. Keep loud  and animated conversation for the breaks, not during the show. If people have got something funny to say, we ask them register on the Enter Our Competition page and we’ll give them a spotlight, mic, stage  and five minutes all to themselves.

After the Open Mic section the MC will sign off for a 10-20 minute break. The show will then reopen with the headline act.

Be prepared to laugh like you’ve never laughed before. We know it’s a school night so we plan to have you on the way home by 10.30pm at the latest.
