Adrian Saunders Adrian Saunders, co-founder of Sydney's brilliant comedy room Comedy on the Rox was born into the stuff from which comics are made. Raised as an Irish Catholic in New Zealand with an Anglo Dad and a Lebanese Mum, Adrian's possibilities for a meaningful existence were remedial at best. Further years of research haunting Sydney's licensed facilities have assisted to distill his pent-up hostility, anger and rage into what the only legal outlet, comedy.
Adrian has been venting publicly since 2004. A graduate of the Actors Centre Stand-up Comedy, he packs a potent punch - poking and prodding at parents, partners and progeny.
He takes an irreverent slant on himself and the world of commerce and shares his unalterably dismal perspective regularly with his comedy colleagues, business partners and unwitting audiences. He was a NSW Raw state finalist in 2005.
Ahn Do
Rarely has a newcomer to the Australian comedy industry had such an impact as Sydney-sider Anh Do.
Anh Do is the "Inspirational Comedian"
The story begins in the Indian Ocean - 1980. An 8 metre fishing boat with 47 Vietnamese Refugees cramped in like sardines. A 2 year old boy is sick from de-hydration, his desperate mother can do nothing to help him. Water ran out days ago, and so far one person has died.
Fast forward to Australia - 2008.
The little boy is 30 years old and has been voted Comedian of the Year.
He is recognized by kids and adults alike who call out jokes they've heard on Rove Live, Thank God You're Here and Dancing With the Stars. He's entertained, motivated and inspired thousands and thousands at corporate events in Australia and throughout the world.
The ups and downs, trials and tribulations, difficulties and successes of a refugee during those 2 decades makes for an incredible and amazing inspirational tale that has the audience gripped with emotion one minute and then howling with laughter the next. The result is always a room that has been transformed.
From language difficulties to divorcing parents, from being broke to being bullied, from becoming a lawyer to becoming Comedian of the Year... Anh uses all his life's experiences to lift an audience to great heights of inspired motivation.
Simply Amazing! he received a standing ovation at the end of his performance
Lisa Dawson - Toshiba Australia
We thought we were "just" getting a really funny comedian - and we certainly did - but so much more.... we have had many speakers over the years and Anh was the best ever!
Glenys Broadhead - The Conference Team
Anh is the consummate professional and took a lot of time to learn about our business and the people involved - he has a strong inspirational message and is just a great performer - I'd recommend Anh unreservedly. Simon Lyon - Fuji Xerox
Inspiring, positive, uplifting... Brilliant - Ian Hyman - Hymans Asset Management
Alan Glover
Alan Glover is without doubt one of Australia's tallest comedians. Recently referred to as an elder statesman of Aussie comedy, he's been standing up since 1983 and shows no sign of tiring. Alan's varied act includes sound effects, silly voices, funny physicality and clever one-liners.
"...material just keeps getting better." John Knowles, Drum Media
Live performance is Alan's great passion (please don't tell his wife).
Alan performed his first one-man show, 'Jolly.Green.Defiant' for the 1998 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Not content with that he took it to the Sydney Comedy Festival, the Newcastle Fringe Festival, and the Wollombi Folk Festival. That showed 'em.
"Alan Glover is a laugh-a-minute comedian." Judy Heywood, The Age.
His first one-woman show is keenly awaited.
Alan spent the last four years as founding President of Valley Artists Inc., a theatre company in the Hunter Valley of eastern Australia. He's written and co-written several shows for the company including Funny Business, Come To Bits and Radio Wollombi, and has acted in various plays including David Williamson's The Removalists.
"...skilful mimicry and wit." Bryce Hallett, Sydney Morning Herald
Alexis Dubus (UK)
Born in Buckinghamshire in 1979, I’m partially French, partially Australian and mostly confused. I got into acting at an early age, despite attending a school which generally believed that grappling and grunting with a throng of sweaty boys in the rain before taking a bath with them was an entirely more manly pursuit than drama.
It was my university years at Warwick that really saw me develop an interest in this activity (drama, not sweating boys) and might go some way to explain why I was the only student on my Philosophy and Psychology course to under-achieve.
As for stand-up comedy, I am currently gigging all around the country and occasionally abroad.
I perform energetic, chatty, feel-good comedy. My style also makes me well suited to compering work.
Since February 2005 I've been running and hosting Falling Down With Laughter in London Bridge. The club was voted Best Small London Comedy Club in the 2008 Chortle Awards.
In 2008 I took my first solo show, A R#ddy Brief History Of Swearing to the Edinburgh Fringe, where it received rave reviews and won the Three Weeks Editors' Award as one of their Top 10 Fringe Experiences. The show tranfered to the Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne Comedy Festival and then the Brighton Fringe in 2009.
In August 2009 I also took my first character show, Marcel Lucont: Sexual Metro to the Edinburgh Fringe.
Alistair Barrie (UK)
According to the Cape Town Argus, Alistair Barie has a casually sardonic sense of humour and is as sharp as a guillotine blade. Time Out magazine describes him as ``superbly talented'' while the Chortle website says he is ``casually urbane, a natural with an incisive intelligence behind his hilarious punchlines. The BBC calls him ``massively talented'' while Venue magazine says he ``has a confidence of delivery envied by many other comics.''
One of the finest comic minds of his generation who can ``leap from the highbrow to the gutter in the draw of a breath'', Barrie is much in demand as a comedian and MC on the international scene. He has played all over the UK, and Ireland, Australia, the USA, Europe, the Middle East and South-East Asia. He is a regular on British TV and radio and often works as an MC in the lucrative corporate world. As well as being one of Britain's most popular comedians he is also an acomplished actor and director.
After starting as a comic in 1998, Barrie first rose to prominence with a sell out performance at the 2002 Edinburgh Festival. He has made two triumphant returns to the Scottish capital as well as starring at many other British festivals.
Amadeua Martin (UK)
Amadeus Martin has quickly made his mark on the British stand-up scene.
A playful character, Amadeus has a quick-witted, cheeky, personable style, and his observational humour is energetic, and direct.
He loves speaking trivia, and the current news, but will sooner speak his mind, than be politically correct.
Amanda Gray
Amanda Gray has been around the traps performing at more than 100 open mics nights and making the grand finals of both the Green Faces and Quest for the Best comedy competitions last year.
She is a regular at Wicked Women at Comedy on the Rox and has been described as a “Super Bitch … who delivers a drizabone set with brilliant comedic timing”.
Amelia Jane Hunter
Originally from Darwin, Amelia is now a Sydney-based comedian who believes comedy is revolutionary and can save the world.
Her unique brand of energy filled character comedy provides hilarious insights into the wicked and wily workings of a well bred, lateral thinking mind. Her humour is both confronting, sensitive and intelligent, a hearty grain fed, well rounded, full bodied flavour with lashings of laughter and a generous side of political profanity.
A trained actor, Amelia has performed on the Comedy Channel's Stand Up Australia and Channel 31's The Couch.
She's the thinking man's crumpet and the working woman's pin up.
Amelia's first solo show 'ROADHOUSE' was nominated for the 'GOLDEN GIBBO' Award 'for brave and innovative new work' and played to full houses at the 2006 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Festival organisers awarded Amelia the prestigious and much coveted Moosehead Award, and in 2007 she performed "Amelia Jane Hunter is Keith Flipp (The Girl from Belkendowns Flat)" at the festival.
She won her second Moosehead when she and Hannah Gadsby took Meat The Musical to the Melbourne Festival.
A regular on the Sydney comedy scene, a state finalist in 2002/03 JJJ Raw Comedy and winner of Darwin 'Roar Comedy', Amelia has performed her outrageous humour everywhere from Darwin Workers Club, Woodford Folk Festival to Cobbs Comedy Club in San Francisco. A regional tour of NSW and ACT in Oct/Nov 2006 furthered her comedic talents and the distinct possibility of being single, childless and full of purpose that little bit longer.
Andrew Norelli (US)
Andrew's comedy career began shortly after receiving a B.S. in Sociology from UC Berkeley. Voted Most Likely to Become a Comedian by his high school class, his act was shaped by the smart, original sensibilities of the famed San Francisco comedy scene. Eventually moving to LA, he worked the top spots including The Icehouse, The Improv, and The Comedy and Magic Club where he opened for Jay Leno. Since then he has shared the stage with almost every big name in the business-- Garry Shandling, Kevin Nealon, Bob Saget, Joe Rogan, Roseanne Barr, George Lopez, Louie C.K., Dave Attell, Dave Chapelle, Robin Williams, and more.
TV spots followed, such as The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, Comics Unleashed, Entertainment Studios with Byron Allen, and NBC's Last Comic Driving. Andrew also appeared at the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival where his performance was praised in the publications The Hollywood Reporter and Time Out New York. As a writer for 131 episodes of the TV show Comics Unleashed, his jokes still air on re-runs of the nationally syndicated program.
Perhaps more importantly, Andrew understands the corporate world, as he worked a sales job in his early years, navigating his way through the baffling realities of expense reports, spreadsheets, and quotas. The experience was invaluable as you must learn about something before you find the humor in it.
Blending his joke writing with his improv skills, he often collects facts, info, and trivia from his clients beforehand, then weaves them into the show. Jokes about the boss, company rivals, or past company events are often fodder.
In addition to his corporate tailored stand-up, he can also be booked to deliver his humorous keynote speech titled "I'm So Sick of Yoga" which explores the importance, and the challenges, of maintaining physical and mental health for a successful career.
Living in California, where good surf is close by, Andrew feels lucky to blend the ambition of the corporate world with the free spirit of stand-up.

Antti Hakala (Finland)

Following his Australian tour last year which included gigs at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2008, Antti took his show to The Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2008.
In 2009 Antti brought his show back to Australia for the Adelaide Fringe. It was all about blond hair, blue eyes, soft skin and meatballs.

Axis of Awesome
The Axis of Awesome are Sydney's self-proclaimed greatest musical comedy rock band. They sing songs, tell jokes and receive awards. They're also incredibly humble. The Axis comprises lead singer is Jordan Raskapoulos, Benny Davis who claims to have 85 per cent of the group's musical talent and Lee Naimo who plays guitar, drums and bird-slide whistle. They are Australia’s newest musical comedy sensation. In the short yet incredible time they have been a band, they have performed to sell out crowds across the country. Their 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival show “The Axis of Awesome Comeback Spectacular” won a Moosehead award, and played to packed houses and rave reviews.Their debut album "Scissors, Paper, ROCK!" is out now, and they will soon be performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They leave men laughing and women gasping(and also laughing). Get ready to have your face blown off its hinges.“Their musical lampoons really hit the mark … they had the audience in stitches, hooting for an encore – 4 stars” - The Age
Jordan Raskopoulos is best known for his work on “The Ronnie Johns Half Hour” on Channel 10. Currently a National Theatre Sports Champion, Jordan was nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival for his one-man show, “The Adventures of the Man With the Dominant Claw”. Jordan enjoys Snickers bars and the music of David Bowie. A classically trained musician, Benny Davis brings some class to the Axis. And a portable keyboard. As an original member of the sketch comedy troupe “The Delusionists”, Benny was a standout in their 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Show. A regular cast member of almost every improvised comedy show in Sydney, Benny is a virtuoso on the keyboard. One of Sydney’s best improvisers, Lee Naimo, along with Jordan, is a current National Theatre Sports Champion, and he is co-creator of the hit live show, “Scrabble Unscripted”, which was a sold-out success at both the Melbourne and Cracker Comedy Festivals in 2006 and 2007.
Barry Hamilton
Barry finally responded to calls (his own) of "one day I'll do stand up comedy, it's got to be easier than this!"
Quickly finding out it wasn't, but being too stupid to quit, he continued to annoy people at open mic rooms in Sydney. With 40 years of life's disasters to refer to, he asks you to examine the contradictions of what life asks us to accept. That and a bunch of one liners which are obviously thinly disguised cries for help.
Barry started in 2003 and made the Grand Final of the Green Faces comedy competition in 2005. Barry has performed all over Sydney. He appeared recently on the "Sydney Underground Comedy" DVD. He regularly appears at The Laugh Garage and at many comedy rooms in Sydney.
"He's not the messiah, he's just a very naughty boy." - Monty Python
Bart Freebairn (Qld)
Clowny, goofy, bouncy Bart Freebairn is the kind of guy who starts out funny and gets funier as the show goes along. His general pisstake on society and running commentary of his own failures are a source of constant laughter; it seems Bart has managed to find that uneasy balance between self depreciation and promotion. The engaging left-of-centre Freebairn is a comedian from a new generation. He’s funny like the older guys, he’s witty, and sometimes crass like them too, but mostly he’s hip, sharp, observant, confident and insightful. He speaks to Generation Y more clearly than any other generation. He’s the voice of soul searching and questioning and has that typical Gen Y trait - an insatiable desire to learn more and be better. He jokes, he impersonates, he muses. And he’s mighty fine at all of it. Freebairn is an emerging comedian with the goods. He’s humorous and intelligent. His entire performance is flawless – he never skips a beat, he never fumbles pr put a foot wrong. His material – from social parodies to common conundrums, from mistakes to mindless banter – is eloquently delivered.
Bev Killick
Bev’s life has become all about boobs since she landed a role in the much-aired Berlei Ad for the Uplifting Tour of Australia and was asked to perform as a Bosum Buddy of Busting Out! Of course she accepted the Busting Out! offer and is looking forward to hearing you laugh your tits off as she gets her tits out.
Bev started making people laugh from the age of ten, at family gatherings. Invariably these gatherings would end up with Bev putting on a show. Always the class clown and lunch time entertainer, Bev’s ability to remember a joke (handed down from her Dad at the meatworks) and tell it well , saw her doing Stand Up Comedy in the school quadrangle long before she knew that it would be her calling.
Bev’s move south to Melbourne was where her innate comedic abilities came to the fore. Participating in numerous performance workshops from clowning to improvisation, she perfected her Stand Up routine touring it around Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane comedy circuits performing in top comedy spots such as The Espy, The Comedy Club, The Comic’s Lounge, The Comedy Store and the Sit Down Comedy Club. (She loved the Espy so much she married the Lighting Guy, who would give her extra special lighting during her sets).
Bev’s ability to get a crowd laughing non-stop each and every time, came to the attention of the Producer’s of the worldwide sensation Puppetry of the Penis. They offered Bev the opportunity to travel with the show as their opening Act. Bev jumped at the offer and travelled around Australia performing to more than 250,000 people.
Since then Bev has worked with Weird Al Yankovic, Gina Riley and Jane Turner as a guest cameo on Kath and Kim. She was a panel member on Beauty and the Beast, a special guest on the hit show Pizza, married her Lighting Guy on Surprise Wedding, beat the blokes on Joker Poker, was nominated for a Green Room Award for Most Innovative Cabaret Show for her show Sic Women, which she performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and appeared on the ABC’s MDA.
Ben Ellwood
Ben Ellwood is a comedian, hysterical hypochondriac, conspiracy theorist and human man.
More gigs followed, as did the applause [albeit mostly begrudging and sympathetic applause from friends and family]. Ben is currently on rotation as part of the Comedy Channel’s Stand Up Australia TV series and is coming soon to a comedy night near you.
Ellwood’s honesty behind the mic stand and willingness to test the expectations of any audience has earned him a place as a must see for, if nothing else, a new angle.Raw, vitriolic tirades on the state of the modern world and it's peoples is coupled with equally truthful observations on life, sex, poverty, law and public transport.
Ellwood is a lungful of air from a desperate gasp, after drowning in a sea full of derivative comedy.
Ben’s performance career took off gradually with a few open mic night performances at Sydney open mic rooms. The next step into live comedy was in Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Raw Comedy Competition in 2006, in which he was placed as a NSW State Finalist.

Brendan grew up in suburban Sydney. Leaving school at 16 to pursue a career in graphic arts, he quickly became quite a problem, drawing cartoons of his fellow workers that were a little too close to the bone for their liking.Surprise, surprise, Brendan had to go.For some reason he dropped his pens & pencils &became a landscaper & bricklayer. Always clowning around on building sites, writing graffiti on anything & everything, it seems he was destined for a career in humour.

Chuck Boyd
Born and raised in California, Chuck always knew he had something to say. At the tender age of 19 began writing and recording radio commercials. These weren’t the ordinary radio-schlock ads, they sparked controversy and garnered Chuck a reputation for having a notorious tongue. As his popularity grew, Chuck’s style made him a popular guest on various morning shows, and eventually led to his own radio show on KMBY in Monterey California.
Chuck then began producing television commercials and TV segments for local shows.
He spent two years as a writer and actor for “Kill Ugly Television”, a weekly skit-based
comedy show in the San Francisco Bay Area. All the time Chuck began to show a strong
interest in standup comedy and develop a venom and hatred for the inane.
Now an Australian Citizen, Chuck has worked his way to the top of the open-mic set, opening for many of Sydney's top comedians. He does American voiceovers, hosted the Morning Show on RadioKaos and had his own segment on the internationally syndicated “Planet Rock” as, you guessed it, a pissed-off American.

Interesting facts about Dave: he has a PhD in Jewish Punk from the University of Sydney, and thanks to his appearance in a documentary about the lost Jews of China (narrated by Leonard Nimoy), he also has a Kevin Bacon rating of 'three', which is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stiletto.
Dave Callan (V)
Easily the hairiest comedian in Australia, Dave Callan is a versatile and highly entertaining comedian, writer and performer.
Dave has an Irish accent because he was born in Ireland and moved to W.A. when he was eight.
The one way people recognise Dave is because of his beard and long hair. Many people want him to shave but it is his trademark. He thinks it will be very fashionable when the new Ice Age comes.
Dave has been on pretty much every Australian TV show that features stand-up comedians.
His 2000 Melbourne comedy festival show was called "Dave Callan is Shithouse" though it was criticised as being falsely advertised.
Dave now hosts his own show on Triple J.
Dave has also been mistaken for Chewbacca, Jesus and The Wild Man from Borneo in that order.
“Dave Callan saved the show by proving his comedic brilliance”
Adelaide Advertiser
“…He puts a bizarre twist on the clichéd rituals of life.”

David Smiedt
David Smiedt was born in South Africa in 1968 and migrated to Australia at the age of 18. He spent the next three years at Macquarie University in Sydney, where he frequently used the word' postmodern' erroneously and out of context. He went on to betray his sex in magazines such as Cleo, New Woman, marie claire, Cosmopolitan and ELLE.
His first book, Boom Boom: 100 Years of Australian Comedy, co-written with Rob Johnson, was published in 1999. Smiedt maintains a shallow illusion of quasi-bohemianism by consuming too many things he shouldn't and too few of the things he should in the inner-city Sydney suburb where he lives with his wife and a poodle.

Ellen Briggs
Ellen Briggs is a talented mother of two, with a sharp tounge and a rapidly rising career in the comedy industry!
This pretty blond tuck-shop Mum will blow you out of the water.
With just two years experience, she bagged first prize on the National Foxtel Comedy Channel's 'Be a Comedian' and earned a spot on Stand Up Australia.
Then in 2007 she was a finalist in the nationally televised Melbourne International Comedy Festival "Raw Comedy" Competition.
Since then Ellen regularly performs as a comedian and MC at venues all over Australia, and can often be heard on "ABC North Coast Radio" and Byron Bay’s Community Radio Station, "Bay FM". In fact at the end of 2007, she was shortlisted for the breakfast radio program "The Cage" which is heard on MMM in Brisbane – without even applying!
Most recently, Suzie Perry, a popular BBC television personality from the UK contacted Ellen to do some co-writing with her for the various television and public appearances that she is required to perform.
Ellen has an easy-going, friendly nature that belies the dark wit that she presents. It’s been said that "Ellen says out loud the things other mothers only dare to even think", and that "with her tales of parenting, she could well become Australia’s next Fiona O’Loughlin". Ellen takes her audience on an observational and hilarious journey through life as an accidental mother of identical twins and the wife of a husband who is away working for nine months of the year.
Briggs has made an art-form out of sneaking really politically incorrect jokes onto the end of ``nice’’ yarns. She manages to launch the punch lines stealthily: You won’t see them coming, but you’ll know when they hit.
Emma Zammit
Emma Zammit is a new face on the comedy circuit and recently won the 2008 Comedy on the Rox’s Quest for the Best competition.
She is a regular at open mic venues around Sydney showcasing her observational humour and is hoping to take over Rove’s spot now he has retired.
Emma has been selected to represent NSW in the Comedy Zone for up-and-coming comics at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2010.
Eric Hutton
Eric Hutton’s been plying his slightly strange – at times funny – style of stand-up for several years on the Sydney comedy scene, and has been based in Melbourne since mid-2008.
He’s impressed some medium-sized cheeses in the business and been threatened three times after gigs. This has led to invitations to appear on The Comedy Channel’s Stand Up Australia and on Triple J radio, filling in with Sam Simmons for industry mega-men Roy and H.G.
At the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Eric appeared in Sam Simmons’ award-winning show Where Can I Win A Bear Around Here?, and performed in the ensemble show The Zinger Machine. He’s supported London Comic of the Year Mark Watson’s Sydney shows at the Factory Theatre, and performs regularly in Sydney and Melbourne.
Fiona O'Loughlin (NT)
Fiona O'Loughlin is the funniest working mother in Australia today. Based in Alice Springs, Fiona has spent the past 10 years working as a stand-up comedian and a columnist as well a writer and presenter for ABC Radio. She has performed many television comedy spots including popular guest appearances on ABC TV's Spicks and Specks, produced her own shows for Australian and UK comedy festivals and earned acclaim at Montreal's invitation-only Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. She appears across Australia every Friday morning as a social commentator on Channel 7's Sunrise program. Fiona spent considerable time “doing housework and having babies” before she took to comedy, making her festival debut in Adelaide in 2000 in a show entitled Fiona And Her Sister (And Some Weird Guy). O'Loughlin took the show to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival the following year, returning with the Barry Award for Best Newcomer before making her Edinburgh Fringe Festival debut with it a few months later, again, to sold out houses. Fiona's glowing national UK reviews included a four-star write-up in the respected industry bible The List. After a sell-out return festival season in Melbourne in early 2002 (with the show From Here To Maternity – extra shows failed to satisfy demand for tickets!), Fiona received her first invitation to appear at Montreal's Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. Her triumphant performances in July that year immediately led to headline appearances at the world-renowned Improv Comedy Club in Los Angeles. In subsequent years Fiona has continued to enjoy sell-out seasons at Australian comedy festivals. She has also branched out, taking her comedy to print and broadcast media. As with her comedy, Fiona's foray into other media was significantly successful. In 2003 Fiona wrote and starred in a series of Heinz television commercials that contributed to extraordinary growth in sales for those products. It was, of course, merely the first of a long list of television appearances, since Fiona is as natural a guest and raconteur, as she is a host and comic. She is currently appearing in Dancing With The Stars on Channel 7.
Fox Klein (Vic)
Charming and challenging, Fox Klein combines pinpoint observations with story telling, moving seamlessly through the joy, pain and sheer stupidity of day-to-day life.
Klein's twisted views on Kung-Fu, the ladies, movies, sex, ghosts . . . the likelyhood of sexy ghosts . . . the probability of Steven Speilberg reading his screenplay about sexy Kung-Fu lady ghosts . . . has seen Klein become a punters' favourite in recent years.
Having honed his stand up skills on every type of stage in front of every type of audience since early 2002, the award-winning Klein has developed a style and energy that switches effortlessly between relaxed and commanding, to playful and highly energetic.
He is a regular on the Melbourne and Sydney comedy circuits and includes performances in New York on his CV.
Fred Lang (Q)
In the mid-sixties Fred, much to his horror, found himself lying in the crib in the Sydney Seventh Day Adventist Hospital.
Six days later, after a daring escape, he crawled north east at a rapid rate until he happened upon an eclectic band of European immigrants. In time he came to know them as Mum, Dad, Older Brother and twin.
The following 30 odd years have seen Fred also escape from 3 schools, 2 TAFE colleges, 106 “employment opportunities”, 53 Households, 21 countries, and 5 relationships. (Having said that, he is very committed to his dog, Beau).
Those 30 years have also seen him become one of Australia’s most sought after "live" stand-up comics. Pubs, clubs, town halls, conference centres, or Opera Houses... it makes little difference to this wild professional. Fred’s love of stand-up comes from a deep seated need to have his say ... and not get arrested! He’ll push, prod and provoke an audience with a style that is, like all individuals, uniquely his.
Fred has had the misfortune of working with just about every well-known comic in the country - most of whom he has little respect for. Those he looks forward to working withagain include Peter Berner, Tommy Dean, Jimeoin, and the Scared Weird Little Guys.
Whether it be traveling, working or fleeing, Fred has managed to fill three passports in the last 10 years - from New Zealand to England, Germany to Fiji, Borneo to Turkey and just about every country in between. In his beloved Australia Fred has worked both coasts, every major city and most of the minor ones as well.
He has appeared on television so many times he is convinced there are still some performances he hasn’t been paid for! Radio has paid up for the many months he offered his unique opinions but the money was crap. He hasn’t done any movies but this is only because he hasn’t slept with a proper agent.
Gabriel Rossi (V)
Born February 3, 1971 in Orbost, Victoria, Gabriel's family moved to Melbourne when Gabriel was only one year old. Even as a young child, Gabriel would entertain his sister's friends when they came around, but he didn't do his first public performance until the age of 10, at a school camp, where he recited a fifteen minute-long "Cheech and Chong" sketch. The performance was so popular that there was an encore performance at school assembly later that week to a huge response.
However, after that initial success, Gabriel left the world of comedy only to return fifteen years later. I t was mid 96 when he made his first appearance as a stand-up comic on the gruelling Melbourne pub circuit. This time he was “all grown up” and was using his own material! It wasn't too long before Gabriel was finding his feet and growing in stature. Realising that he found his passion in life, Gabriel focussed very heavily on his comedy by watching the local acts and learning the intricate rules about being funny.
By early 1998, Gabriel had reached the state final of the Triple J Raw Comedy Competition. The competition was tough. The winner that year was Chris Franklin, who has since gone on to have a number one hit single with "Bloke"! 1998 proved to be the year in which Gabriel Rossi came of age. It was during this year that he became one of Melbourne's premier acts, regularly MC’ing comedy nights and appearing as a Headline act at all the major comedy venues.
In early 1999, Gabriel had a brief stint on breakfast radio on TTFM, where he was performing song parodies live on air. The Champagne Comedy program on Channel 31 commenced in June and Gabriel is the performer most regularly used on this program. Long-running Channel 31 program, The Comic Box also utilised Gabriel to host their program.
In 2000, Gabriel put on his first Melbourne International Comedy Festival show called "Melbourne - the Musical." The show was a runaway success and received rave reviews. In May 2000, Gabriel reverted back to his Italian/Calabrese roots and began touring Australia with Joe Avati. Along with Joe, he performed to the Italian communities in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and country Victoria, and was very well received. Having had success in the mainstream market, Gabriel relished the challenge and was reborn as an Italo-Australian comic. In other words, he found a new string to his bow and ran with it.
Since 2001 Gabriel has achieved the status of a headline act throughout Australia nad has remained so to date. Since releasing his frist CD "Mama's Boy" he followed it up with a comedy single entitled "Melbourne Suburbs Medley" in 2002 and the highly acclaimed "Live @ The Comic's Lounge" in 2003. In 2005 he was part of the "Show Us Your Roots" tour and was subsequently included on the DVD of the same title which was released later that year.
Gabriel is also a prominent worker on the corporate scene where he has entertained many companies such as ANZ, Carlton Football Club, Visa, IBM, Melbourne Football Club, AFL and many more.
The future holds more travelling as Gabriel is about to embark upon his third tour of the UK and also many more theatre shows following on from the success of his shows at The Darebin Arts Centre and The Clocktower Centre to name a couple.
Gabriel received a 5-star review for his 2004 Melbourne International Comedy Festival show "Reservoir Wogs" from the Herald-Sun and in 2006, following Gabriel's MICF show "Gift of the Gab" was lauded as "offering witty and candid perceptions of sexist and racist behaviour" and "refreshingly new" from The Age Online. Gabriel Rossi continues to work on his next offering and looks forward to the challenge ahead in what is now over ten years as a comedian.
Garry Who
One of the original pioneers of the infamous Australian Sydney Comedy Store, Garry Who quickly slipped into television and was the resident comedian on The Midday Show with Ray Martin for two years.
He hosted and wrote his own segments in the light-hearted national magazine show Just For The Record on Channel Ten, and starred alongside Jon English and Rebecca Gibney in the hit national sitcom Altogether Now for Channel Nine. Garry wrote and performed his own segments for the award-winning ABC adult literacy series The Reading Writing Road Show, and was nominated for an ARIA Award for best comedy album in 1987.
Garry is consistently touring and is in high demand for corporate work and live comedy venues around the country and abroad.
Gary Eck
Gary
Eck has been entertaining Australian and international audiences with
his sharp wit for over fourteen years. If he also looks familiar to you
in a black leather kind of way, perhaps you’ve seen his work alongside
Mick Molloy and Glenn Robbins in the greatest boy band from the 1980s,
Boytown.
Acting (and musical) talents aside, Gary has performed at comedy
festivals in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, and toured internationally
in London, Singapore and New York.
He has toured with the Umbilical Brothers, Jimeoin and supported US
comedy legend Steven Wright, performed his stand-up accompanied by a
live orchestra, and appeared on numerous television shows including
Rove, The Footy Show, Spicks and Specks, and Stand-up Australia.
George Kapiniaris (Vic)
George Kapiniaris is one of Australia's best loved comedians.
He burst onto the national scene with the hit stage show Wogs Out Of Work which parlayed into the TV series Acropolis Now in which his characted Memo constantly referred to women as ``chicky babes''.
His latest veture is a national tour with fellow comedians Simon Polamares, Nish Selvadurai and Joe Avati in their hilarious show Il Dago.
Kapiniaris is also an accomplished actor with his roles as DJ in the popular TV series The Flying Doctors and that of real life character George Defteros, the lawyer to Melbourne's underworld in the smash hit mini-series Underbelly, his best remembered.
George Smilovici
George has not stood still since he topped the Australian and New Zealand music charts, and US comedy charts with his hilarious hit monologue, 'I’m Tuff'.
An internationally renowned comedian and musician, George has performed in every arena possible, from his own shows in giant sporting stadiums to intimate clubs as headliner. He has worked alongside the likes of Joe Cocker, Talking Heads, Neil Sedaka, Joan Rivers, Ricky May, Michael Winslow, INXS, Tiny Tim, Midnight Oil.
George is currently one of Australia’s most sought after corporate entertainers and is an inspirational speaker on a multitude of topics. His passion for making people laugh and feel at ease has ironically provided him with a platform to confront social issues with hysterical abandon.
Last year he performed for the coalition troops in Iraq, and he has recently performed with Michael Jacobson's 'One Night Stand' productions. He has had his own TV show on Fox Sports called The G-Files, and has appeared on The Comedy Channel's Stand Up Australia.
Geraldine Quinn (V)
Rock-cabaret star Geraldine Quinn is a rare blend of songwriter, guitarist, singer, comedian, actor and destined to be "catapulted to international superstardom"(The Age). Her work is brutal, original, intelligent, musically cunning, lyrically nimble and very, very funny. She is blazing a trail internationally, breaking rules, hearts and guitar strings across the globe - catch her while you can.
Critics have described her as "ferocious and funny." Sunday Mail (Adelaide)
"This brutal, beautiful androgyne is bound for untamed success." The Age (Melbourne)
"Geraldine Quinn, chanteuse extraordinaire, is also very funny." Sunday Age (Melbourne)
"Funny and a helluva singer." Adelaide Advertiser
"Geraldine Quinn is sexy ... (her) singing voice and stage presence continue to amaze." Beat Magazine (Melbourne)
Uber-popsongwriter, singer and satirist Quinn’s "beautiful, haunting, gutsyvoice" combined with original "dark and vulgar material" make her one of the new musical comedy artists to watch. She is funny, sexy, dark and original - as rock as you can get with a piano and a chick in three-inch heels. Quinn is a great musician, a supremely wrong sense of humour and oh-so-catchy tunes about such varied universal themes as why Bowie is God, bunnies are evil and everything sounds better in French.
Geraldine's performed around Australia and the UK and swiftly has made a name for herself as a mighty singer with dark thoughts whose material is quarenteed to offend almost everyone. She was twice selected in Edinburgh in Mervyn Stutter’s Pick of the Fringe and performed in the David Letterman Showcase in the UK in 2006. In 2007 she toured Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Tasmania and Edinburgh.
Quinn had been acting, writing and singing for 10 years before she attended the National Theatre Drama School (1999-2002). She is a self-taught singer/songwriter/guitarist with a High Distinction thesis on Evelyn Waugh somewhere on the shelves at University of Melbourne. Possessor of an astonishing voice, a wicked sense of humour and a keen intelligence, this queen of hardcore cabaret is a force to be reckoned with. Her ballads are subversive and always a treat and her vocal range is amazing. She’s a misanthropist with a twisted sense of humour and vocal chords that pierce who has gained a reputation as Australia’smost inappropriate songstress.
Grant Lyon (US)
Oscillating between moments of intelligent wit and pure silliness, Grant Lyon reveals his laid-back surfer personality on the stage. Growing up in a strict household with a large group of siblings who are brilliant, talented and great big show-offs, Grant discovered he could seek refuge in laughter. His funny skills, drive to be the center of attention, and infatuation with this nation’s past and present now enable Lyon to spin a narrative like no other.
Though barely an adult, Grant has been around. He grew up in Los Angeles, moved to Chicago, came back to Sacramento, and ended up in Santa Cruz. Moving forced him to be outgoing and make friends easily, and now those experiences help him make friends with every audience. He discovered stand-up comedy while playing collegiate soccer at UC Santa Cruz, and unfortunately for his soccer coach, the passion of his life changed.
Multi tasking between family, girls, politics, and finally living as an adult gives Grant Lyon more than enough material to keep audiences from all over captivated and coming back for more.
``One of the most original comedians on the scene, not only will he make you laugh, you might learn something.''
- David Testroet, Producer of the Mile High Comedy Competition.
``In a sea of wannabe 'street' comics and childish toilet humor salesmen, it's nice to see someone who is striving to be clever and honest and original.''
- Johnny Steele, Former host of the Live 105 Morning Radio Show and past winner of the San Francisco International Comedy Competition.
Harley Breen (V)
Harley Breen is surely and rapidly becoming a major player in the Melbourne and Australian comedy world. He is young, and already well versed in the language of the art that is Comedy. He began in Brisbane with his feet planted firmly on the ground and his mind traveling to exotic and imaginative destinations. In the high lands of Papua New Guinea, Harley performed to several hundred of PNG’s finest non English speaking nationals. After performing in such a supportive comedy savvy area of the world, he returned to Australia to become a Stand-Up comedian.
After two years of working within the Brisbane scene Harley moved to Melbourne to take part in the 2004 Melbourne International Comedy festival (MICF). His first comedy festival show “A Harley shaped Hickey called Wayne” achieved sell out crowds. In 2005 Harley’s MICF show titled “SKINT” achieved the same success attracting robust crowds and receiving acclaim throughout the season. With rapid energy and physicality, Harley delivers his bizarre and absurd takes on the world, captivating his audience with unmarked ideas and surreal images in a mission to unravel rigid beliefs and preset assumptions that mostly subside cunningly deep within institutions and establishments (what the hell does that mean?). Harley tackles his dilemmas and sticky situations head-on exposing humor that may otherwise go unnoticed.
Hannah Gadsby (V)
The notoriously accident-prone Tasmanian comedian Hannah Gadsby, who took to the stage never having seen a comedian before, describes herself as "super laid back. Any more laid back, and I'd drift off to sleep." Yet somehow over the course of her chequered career she has developed prophetic abilities, found harmony picking broccoli and enraged British national treasure Pam Ayres.
Gadsby left Tasmania, in her own words, as "everyone was a little too ... related. A little too friendly!" Her many attempted career paths include stop-motion animation. "I'm not particularly good at it, I discovered! I thought I would be. The people who do it have extraordinary powers of patience."
Broccoli harvesting relaxed her. "You're out in the fresh air, the weather's nice." A position as a film projectionist came to an ignominious end after a damaging series of international cycling mishaps. "One was a miss-and-run - they didn't quite hit me but I swerved into a parked car; one was a car door opening. I was hit by my fourth car in Vienna. Unexpected success followed Gadsby's surprise win at the 2006 Raw Comedy competition at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, which a friend forced her into. From there to the Big Apple: the New York comedy circuit was competitive. "It's tough. They're pretty comedy-savvy. But I did all the exciting clubs." Invited to perform in 'So You Think You're Funny?' at the Edinburgh Fringe, Gadsby took the opportunity to sample Scots cuisine. "I was impressed with the deep-fried Mars Bar. But I don't think it's something you can have twice," she emphasises.

Jacques Barrett
Jacques has been pedalling his brand of at times darkish observational and impressionistic comedy for 3 and a half years now, long enough to realise that bios make him sound more important if they're written by him but in the third person. But he hates that shit, he thinks it sounds dumb and he's not gong to do it any more.
I've punched out sets around Sydney, Wooloongong, Brisbane, Woy Woy,and I've run 2 comedy rooms: one at the Paddington Bowling Club in 2004 and one at the Bondi Bowling club in 2005. They both got shut down cus old people who run bowling clubs are c==ts. But I've done plenty of gigs, mainly in Sydney.
I've hosted heaps of trivia nights and charity events and I was a lawn bowls instructor for a few years too, but I retired because of my hip, which I shattered when I was drunk in my shower. I drinks lots of milk now.
I've been in a few comedy competitions, I made it to the semi finals of Raw Comedy in 2006 but I did heaps more better in the 2Day FM Australian Comedy God competition in 2005 where I got to the grandfinal to compete for $50K. I didn't win but I got on air on 2 Day FM for a year with another guy from the competition called Jim Rochford. He and I were funny together apparently and they gave us a Sunday morning spot for our show called 'The Wagon'.
After 6 months of sacriligious Sunday morning segments we got moved toTuesday and Thursday night where we got even more borderline and aftera year I was taken off air because I did too much stuff about Osama Bin Laden, racial stereotypes and other taboo topics and 2Day FM didn't think I fitted their image. It only took them a year to work that shit out. I could have told them that right from the start. It was good experience but.
I was on the Comedy Channel's Australia Stands Up too, which was fun.
James Moffett (V)
James Moffett is from a small country river town in South Australia called Goolwa.
At age 20, he moved to Byron Bay, where he turned to stand-up comedy after his chosen career of massage therapist failed to live up to his expectations. James thought he would be massaging "all the hot chicks", where in reality he spent his days massaging "hairy backed gorilla men!"
A state finalist in Triple JJJ's Raw Comedy, and a finalist in Canberra's Green Faces, James is also a regular at various comedy festivals. In 2008 he appeared in "Brain Date" at the Bangalow Big Joke Festival, as well as became a finalist in the Village Idiot Competiton at the same festival.
In 2009, James was a featured guest on Channel 31's "The Comic Box". He also performed his solo show, "The Water Revolution" at the St Kilda Laughs Festival, and co-starred in "Fight Comic" at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
If that was not enough, James also completed a 20 date tour of his solo show, "Random Acts Of Wrongness" in 2009 where he appeared at some of the toughest pubs in "the middle of nowhere" Western Australia - including a rifle range! They did not shoot him, so he must have been funny.
The tour culminated in a successful headline spot at Perth's "Laugh Resort" Comedy Club.
For six months in 2008, James worked as a stunt man and extra on the Steven Speilberg/Tom Hanks mini-series "The Pacific", which is the sequel to the award-winning "Band Of Brothers". "The Pacific" is due for release in 2010. James has also appeared as an extra in various other movies, tv shows and commercials.
In 2006, James co-hosted "The Bandwagon" radio show on Bay FM, Byron Bay for over a year. "The Bandwagon" began as a late night radio show, but soon moved to drive time due to it's popularity. James has also performed various voiceovers for Power FM.
James is currently based in Melbourne and is working on a series of sketch comedy short films.

Jay Sullivan (ACT)
Jay was born in Sydney, but spent most of his childhood in Tumut NSW.
Jay’s birthday is the 20th March. Jay shares his day of birth with Spike Lee, William Hurt, Henrik Ibsen and Holly Hunter. On March 20 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono were married. John is Jay’s favourite Beatle.
Jay is a regular performer at comedy clubs, charity events and corporate functions for a range of businesses in Canberra and the local region. 2010 is set to be a big year with a trip to New York City and his first solo theatre show.
Jay first did stand-up comedy at RAW Comedy 2006. “I’d been acting in theatre for about 8 years and always wanted to try stand-up, but was scared I would suck.”
His comedy heroes include: Bill Cosby, Brian Regan, Akmal Saleh, Ricky Gervais, Arj Barker, Demetri Martin, Steven Wright. Sullivan also has several comedians who he refers to as “the gods of comedy” – these are: Charlie Chaplin, Lenny Bruce, Andy Kaufman, Mitch Hedberg, Bill Hicks and Richard Pryor.
Jay’s first five minute routine is Canberra comedy folklore. It was a raw and loud set that ended up going for seven and a half minutes. Tom Gibson wrote of that performance: “An angry young man took to the stage to right some wrongs. He took no prisoners. You had to be prepared to ride some full-on topics to appreciate the jokes along the way. Some of the audience were shocked. Most people realised they were seeing the birth of something special.”
Jay said, “My act has changed a lot since then, as I’ve learned more about comedy. I just want the audience to laugh a lot and have a good time.”
Fast-forward to 2008: Jay won the National Green Faces competition. In the same year, he was also in the National Final of RAW Comedy at the Melbourne Town Hall.
Jay has performed at the National Multicultural Fringe Festival two years running and this year he hosted the National Heckler’s Competition, Jay said: “There was nothing scarier than walking out onstage knowing the audience had microphones and were ready to go!”
Jay performs regularly at open mic nights around Canberra, sticking to a policy of never doing the same joke twice in the same venue. Jay’s regular Canberra venues include: The Front, Civic Pub and the Arts Centre at Tuggeranong. In 2009, Jay was one of the core performers at the first Canberra Tilt Comedy Festival.
Jay has also had the opportunity to work Akmal Saleh and Joel Ozborn at the Sydney Opera House and performed alongside: Clint Paddison, Adam Hills, Dave Williams, Damian Callinan, David Eastgate, Chris ‘Bloke’ Franklin, Tahir, and one of his heroes: Austen Tayshus. His next gig was in a scary you-might-actually-die-when-they-stab-you style Tavern in front of 12 comics and a man sitting atthe bar crying into his beer. After only a few short years of performing stand up Josh’s unique talent has the Australian Comedy Industry abuzz. His virginal looks and cutting dialect combine to create a voice that is genuinely distinctand exciting. For a performer so young to have such an honest and developed sense of who he is on stageis quite remarkable.2007 has been a cracker year for Josh, picking up the gong for Best Newcomer at the MelbourneInternational Comedy Festival for his first ever solo show, Please Like Me. This was followed by six weeks touring with the Comedy Festival Roadshow and an invitation to perform at the Just For Laughs Festival inMontreal in July.In 2006, Josh performed in The Comedy Zone, a showcase of Australia's best new talent presented by theMelbourne Comedy Festival. Julia Clark (UK)
Julia Clark takes an irreverent look at Australia through loving, if very amused, eyes.
You’ll hear no whingeing here.
Her past and present incarnations as youth worker, backpacker, girlfriend, student, daughter, legal secretary and seething user of public transport provide ample fuel for her wry observations on the darker and sillier sides of life.
Julia's unflinching comic style has made her a rising star on the comedy scene.
In just under a year she's gone from tentative pub gigs to Melbourne Comedy Festival’s Comedy Zone, leaving many in her wake wondering, ‘did she just say that?’
Julia Morris The self annointed, ignobly titled “Lady J-Mo” was born the reasonably honorable Julia Carolyn Margaret Morris on April 20th 1968 in Sydney Australia.
It was during her lead performance in Gosford Musical Society’s Calamity Jane that folks began to suspect that this young and gifted oracle was destined for even bigger things.
Several years of honing her stand-up and variety skills followed, both as an entertainer in Club Med resorts and as resident MC at the Sydney Comedy Store. Then Julia got her big television break in 1995 on the Logie award-winning comedy sketch show Full Frontal.
Quickly becoming a household name on Australian television, radio and the stage, a move to the comedy capital of the world was inevitable and by the turn of the century Julia was working in London, where her refreshing honesty captured the imagination of British comedy’s elite.
Whilst living in the UK, Julia hosted TV shows for the BBC, worked with everyone from Stephen Fry to Dame Edna, appeared in nearly every major international festival from Prague to South Africa, won the prestigious Herald Angel award at the Edinburgh Festival 2002 and was named Time Out London’s ‘Comedy Performer of the Year’ in 2004. She also wrote and performed three different one woman shows on London’s prestigious West End.
Since her return to Australia in 2007 with husband Dan and baby Ruby, Julia hasn’t stopped. She has featured on every commercial television channel, on shows including Good News Week, Sunrise and Thank God You’re Here – and co-hosted Foxtel’s Astra award-winning The Singing Office.
In April 2008 Julia and opera superstar David Hobson not only won Channel 7’s hit show It Takes Two, but, with their interpretations of songs like “We Don’t Need Another Hero”, also provided the nation with some of the most memorable TV moments the year.
Julia’s stand-up featured at the galas of both the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Sydney’s Cracker Comedy Festival Her stand-up shows were sell-outs in both festivals and also nominated for a Helpmann Award. (Australia’s version of the USA Tonys or UK Olivier theatre awards.)
During It Takes Two, Julia discovered she was pregnant again and in November 2008 she delivered her second daughter, Sophie. Her return to tip-top health after the birth was speedy, no doubt aided by the fact that she had become the Australian face of both Kellogg’s All Bran and Fernwood Fitness!
Julia used the final months of her second pregnancy to pen the memoirs of her time abroad, entitled “Don’t You Know Who I Used To Be?”, which were released on 1st April 2009.
Her current stand-up tour, the accompanying slideshow spectacular to the book, has already sold out at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the In Stitches Festival in Brisbane, Sydney’s Cracker Comedy Festival, as well as the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Julia hosted the official Gala opening nights to the Sydney and Adelaide Festivals (which also featured Bernadette Peters) to great public and critical acclaim. So far the show has won Julia “Best Local (Australian) Act” in Time Out Sydney’s 2009 Comedy Awards and recently earned her a second Helpmann Award Nomination.
These days, apart from the business of show, Lady J-Mo undertakes various official, ceremonial and representational duties befitting her level of Royal Prerogative. And as the Lady says “Dementis Pro Is”
Julia Wilson Described by many as the toughest woman in comedy, Julia Wilson tours the world with her dubious morals, having plenty of seriously dangerous fun along the way.
This convent school girl, bouncer, accountant cum stand-up comedian’s humour refuses to be pigeonholed .
Julia doesn't just take to the stage, she owns it. Her unique style of storytelling is delivered with such honesty and at a blisteringly energising pace that a shirt full of sore ribs is guaranteed!

Lil' Fi (V)

Lil' Fi is a singer/songwriter of Australia-wide renown. She has a unique way of electrifying an atmosphere with her enviable stage presence, wit and pizzazz. Lil' Fi is a consumate performer, with her songwriting described by Lucky Oceans and Doug Spencer from ABC's 'The Planet' thus: " Lil' Fi is an uncommonly convincing 'blues mama'... all the more so because she writes intelligently, understands dynamics and can eloquently express a tender thought as well as a raunchy notion..."

Julie Fox of the Sydney Blues Society stated in a review... " this lady never ceases to amaze me - not only a brilliant songwriter who always hits the nail right on the head with observations about life, love and our need to look after the environment, but a beautiful voice and first class entertainer... rating: 10/10. Prediction for the future: if Fi ever ventures overseas I am positive it will be our loss but the whole world's gain!"

The outspoken disabled comic admits she causes confusion in audiences and that her uncompromising perspective of disability might even offend. Mary O'Hara of the Manchester Guardian says: ``Liz Carr brings the house down with a cocktail of caustic observational gags about disability and sexuality. Carr is accustomed to bizarre audience reactions, especially because she uses words such as `crip' and `spaz' and people are often unsure how to react. She handles it with good humour. `I've had some tuts, which is fantastic,' she says with a giggle. `I look quite frail to some people, so it's like, 'She's talking about sex, she's swearing.' Every stereotype you didn't expect. People generally look terrified. 'Oh my God, is she going to be funny? Can we laugh at this?'" Bruce Dessau of the London Evening Standard says: "Feisty wheelchair user Liz Carr packs a considerable comic punch."

M W Oh (aka Mark Williamson)
The MW Oh Show is the alter ego of Tasmanian-born, but not inbred and Sydney-based comedian, Mark Williamson, who, after finding nothing but disillusionment in the corporate world, found solace in the wonderful world of comedy. After a year or so treading the boards in such fine establishments as the iconic Sydney Comedy Store, the legendary Paddy Macguires and some dodgy venue on the fringes of Canberra he found himself in Victoria for the 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, for the debut of his solo show, Quarter Life Crisis!!
Said the Critics …
"I laughed out loud, both in disbelief and awe." –The Pun.
"He's a lively, likeable guy with a hint of oh-so fashionable geek chic." – The Age.
Mark, as well as performing, promotes one of Sydney's longest running open mic nights, Comedy on the EDGE. He has appeared on the Merrick & Rosso Show (the Comedy Channel), the Couch (TVS) and has been a regular contributor to the radio station FBi 94.5 fm (www.fbiradio.org). Mandy Nolan
Mandy Nolan has performed as a stand-up comedian for 18 years. During that time, she has worked along side celebrities such as Whoopi Goldberg, Ertha Kit, and Bob Downe. Mandy's stand-up is known and loved for its rapid fire philosophical philandering and for the obtuse observations and esoteric back scratches that emerge from themusings of what she describes as "a modern madam whose dilemma is tonavigate the new frontiers in the suburban badlands of human relationships." Audiences adore Mandy on stage, and around Byron Bay where she lives,Mandy-jokes are as much a part of the vernacular as any surf speak. Her humouris sharp, honest, sometimes self-depreciating, somewhat outrageous, but never cruel or pretentious. Frequently irreverent, it speaks to a diverse audience with no set demographic, no gender, race or religion, occupation or tribe. It even crosses state borders and mediums (Mandy also writes and paints). Mandy's style is universally appreciated because it reflects so poignantly, the human condition and the absurdity of our world. In short, Mandy Nolan is a truly talented professional with a class act. Oh, and she's excruciatingly funny. Amist a full schedule of live acts, television and radio appearances, a weekly press columnand a comedy course (did we mention she also has three children?), Mandy's skills as a presenter and conference facilitator have also demanded her time and attention. Having anchored a host of Award Ceremonies and Charity Auctions such as the launch of Nelson Mandela's 46664 Aids Fundraiser with Micheal Franti, Mandy has a natural ability to focus and guide groups through a journey of growth via humour. In this role as facilitator, Mandy has taught presenters from the Queensland and NSW chapters of the National Speaker's Network, and was recently invited to Melbourne to address theVictorian Chapter with a Funny Business Presentation. In 2004, she conducted a workshop specifically for seniors titled "Shooting From My Hip Replacement", and she travels regularly Australia to mentor and inspire professionals in the realm of stand-up. With a penchant for social observation and comment, Mandy is a favoured MC at conference events and has worked alongside keynote speakers such as Philip Adams, Richard Neville and Peter Garrett. If all that was not enough, Mandy is also an artist and promoter who regularly presents comedy events, including the annual "Bangalow Big Joke Festival".
Marie Helou (ACT)
Comedian and mischief starter, Marie has worked the Sydney comedy circuit for over four years.

Her TV credits include a role in "Toulas' gang" in the SBS Hit series Fat Pizza and a role in Aussie hip hop artists Figg Kidd's film clip, "My, oh my".
Mathew Kenneally (V)
One of the brightest young comedians in Australia, Matthew Kenneally's stand-up career kicked off at the 2006 Melbourne International Comedy Fesitval when he appeared in the Comedy Zone, a showcase of the country's most promising comics.
Kenneally's comedy is dark, satirical and topical, all delivered with a smile. He focuses on the big issues such as terrorism, politics and getting smashed on a Saturday night. One of Australia's few political satirists, Kenneally believes the change of government will be good because it will stop comedians relying on tired old John Howard jokes to prop up their acts.
Matt Dyktynski
While you may not recognise him, or be able to pronounce his last name, Matt Dyktynski is a seasoned performer: He is an actor (appearing in films and favourite Australian TV shows such as Blue Heelers and The Secret Life of Us) and a comedian.
As a comedian, Dyktinski has toured the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia. He has played all of London's top clubs and venues across the UK.
He has performed from Paris to Zagreb and his one man show, Pole Dancer, at the Edinburgh International Comedy Festival attracted rave reviews.
Matt Okine
As a black man growing up in Brisbanes notorious westsiiiiiide suburb of Indooroopilly, Matthew Okine (aka Disco-Matt MC) has seen it all. Surrounded by gang-warfare, drug-dealers, drive-bys, hookers with needles in their arms, and even worse, mothers picking their sons up from private schools in a four-wheel drive that's never touched a speck of dirt, Matt took on board all the mayhem of his environment and set sail to conquer a world more terrifying and painful than any law-society dinner - the entertainment industry.
Backed by the support of nobody and with little to no experience, Matt entered the Triple J Raw Comedy Competition where he was blessed with an opportunity to perform in the National final in front of 1500 people. The blessing was short-lived, however, after Matt BOMBED SO BADLY in his performance, that the International Comedy Board declared it an act of terrorism against all things funny.
He then spent the next two years hiding and performing in the back alleys of Brisbane, and sometimes Sydney, refining his act, and attempting to change his ghetto ways. The Sit-Down Comedy Club finally found Matt this year, hiding in a dirt hole, in only his underwear and madly clutching his newly attained QUT Acting Degree.

Mick Meredith
With over a dozen appearances on national TV including The Footy Show, Mornings with Kerri Anne, Joker Poker and The Channel Nine New Year's Eve Spectacular, Mick Meredith has certainly made his mark or indentation on the comedy world.
Mick has had the punters laughing since 1998 from humble beginnings at open mic nites in Parramatta and Harold Park, to the rest of the globe.
In Mick's youth he has confessed to being the class clown who always dreamed of becoming a rock star or comedian, so with not much thought he combined the both into the Mick Meredith rockin' comedy buffet we see today.
Mick's years of playing in garage/metal/pop and alternative bands like the Plug Uglies, The Moles, Muscletongue and The Hillarys gave him the vocal and guitar skills to pull off a sweet-but-funny ballad to a ballsy, rock-god pisstake.
Either playing guitar, singing or just holding a microphone, Mick's razor sharp but loveable wit will have you laughing from start to finish with a bit of headbanging and toe-tapping in between.
"They say laughter is the best medicine, I'm not a doctor but I can give you a dodgy prescription..."

Rhys Nicholson
Comedioan Rhys Nicholson spent three years gathering material for his stand-up routine working at a Newcastle discount store, spying on its "crazy" customers for vignettes to relate on stage.
He was sacked from the job for being lazy.
If only his boss had understood that stocking shelves with cheap ceramic knick-knacks wasn't his calling.
His talent lay, instead, in lurking between the aisles to eavesdrop on "teen mums, ice addicts and skinny white boys", and later translating their banter into a "backhandedly mean" love letter to the town where he grew up.

Sam McCool
Ever wondered what you’d get if you crossed Italians with Indians; Scots with Samoans; or Jamaicans with New York Jews? If not, read on… Sam McCool is a very unique comedian on the Australian comedy scene. Having travelled to nearly 50 countries, speaking 5 languages, and impersonating people from Invercargill to Inverness… Sam’s life goal is to travel half the world, communicate with half the world, and shag the rest! He’s a conceptual comic with a cultural edge, and the voices that spew forth from his forked tongue leave Aussie audiences both amazed and amused! No heckle too great, no audience too audacious, and no stone left unturned to squeeze the comic marrow from each morsel of material at his disposal. Fresh, harmless and hilarious comedy is his forte, as you take a cross-cultural comic adventure without leaving your comfort zone. Over 10 years of stand up comedy, improvisation, freelance writing, event hosting as an MC, show through on any given night when you savour a sample of McCool Comedy. Having guest written for ABC’s Glasshouse, starred in Australia’s shortest ever feature film Dags, and dabbled in overseas TV roles such as the dubious honour of playing “Crocodile Man” on an Indonesian Soap Opera or as a lisping Aussie marine biologist Dr Shkippy Shcuba for Disneyland Paris, there are few more versatile comics around than Sam McCool… if you haven’t heard of him yet… hold on … he’s coming!

Smart Casual
``Fletcher Jones'' and ``Roger David'' (alias Nick and Ben Mattick) are Smart Casual. Smart Casual is
arguably Australia's smartest, most casual musical duo. This two piece
musical duo will blow your mind with their low key, high concept
musical comedy. Since taking out the title of 2008 NSW Winner of RAW
comedy, Melbourne Comedy Festival's new talent competition, Smart
Casual has gone from strength to strength. In 2008 they took their
original comedy musical - Fletcher Jones, The Life and Times Thereof -
to Melbourne Comedy Festival, of which The Age said: ``Immediately
likeable. Aussie laconic humour is alive and well.''
Steve Patterson (Canada)
Steve Patterson began his full-time comedy career shortly after being fired from his full-time copywriting job for shamelessly trying to inject humour into an ad for an amusement park in 1996. He joined the touring roster of Canada’s premiere comedy booking agency later that same year. After less than one year of performing as an opening act, Patterson was promoted to headliner status.
In 1999, Steve performed at the prestigious Just For Laughs festival in Montreal for the first time where his Irish-influenced material prompted his first of many performances in the Emerald Isle.
Between 1999-2004 Patterson paid his club circuit dues with a relentless touring schedule across Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom with additional stops in the United States and the United Arab Emirates. He also began an illustrious streak as being the only non-Maritime comic to be invited to perform at the Halifax Comedyfest five consecutive years (2002-2006) and taped his first of many national television specials including Comedy Now! for CTV/Comedy Network, Halifax Comedyfest (3 CBC galas) and his first Just For Laughs gala. In 2004, Steve also performed at the esteemed Edinburgh Comedy Festival in Scotland.
Now a seasoned comedy veteran with over a decade of headlining experience, the work and accolades for Patterson are pouring in steadily.
Named host of the hit CBC radio show “The Debaters” in 2007, Steve can be heard weekly across Canada and around the world steering Canada’s top comedic minds through hilarious debates on top of mind topics. He has also become a familiar name on the Australian comedy circuit with three headline tours there in the past 3 years.
Finally, Steve has been nominated in 2007 and 2008 for a Canadian Comedy Award as Canada’s best male stand-up comedian, an honour he does not take lightly…in fact, it may be the only thing he does not take lightly.
Steve Philp
Watching Steve Philp perform is like watching an episode of 80s TV show It’s A Knockout except he assures us no-one will get hurt! Actor, comedian and former radio announcer Steve has adapted to most things his parole officer has given him.
Starting out on an acting career Steve starred in kids’ stage show’ such as Barney the Dinosaur and Blinky Bill as well as working with The Wiggles on The Dorothy the Dinosaur Show and quickly found kids to be on his level of intelligence.
Steve then moved into stand-Up comedy and made the finals of competitions such as Triple J Raw and Green Faces and then quickly moved on the road touring the country for the last six years with xomedians such as Carl Barron, the Umbilical Brothers, Adam Hills and a number of international acts such as Arj Barker and Paul Provenza. This intense touring enabled Steve to work in sold out venues such as the Sydney Opera House, the Enmore theatre and Newcastle’s Civic Theatre. During this time Steve moved into radio co-writing and co-hosting an ACRA award nominated Saturday morning breakfast show Kennedy and Philp on Nova 969 (Sydney) for five years which allowed Steve to interview and work with stars such as Jack Black, Ron Moss, as well as filling in for Merrick And Rosso on weekday breakfast for five weeks over the Christmas period. Steve also became active as an MC and has hosted the afternoon session of Sony Tropfest for the past five years as well as other short film festivals such as Quick flicks and Shootout.

The Bedroom Philosopher (aka Justin Heazlewood)
Justin Heazlewood is fast growing to be one of the most innovative and original muso-comedians on the scene today. At just 22, the gutsy Tasmanian burst through the ranks to become the resident Bedroom Philosopher on Triple J’s Morning Show in 2002. A self proclaimed ‘Folkstar,’ he rose to fame with a six month songwriting blitz on Triple J as the original ‘doona crooner’.He soon scissor-kicked his way into television, writing and starring in two pilot episodes of "The Bedroom Philosopher Show" for ABC's Fly TV. The Bedroom Philosopher, AKA Justin Heazlewood, turns in a cracking performance of sparklingly funny songs, stage banter and a sophisticated musical repertoire. The philosopher’s wit is sharp like a saber, but multi-faceted like a complicated puzzle that has never been solved. The Bedroom Philosopher owns an unmistakable cult genre clash of inventive musician and fiercely clever lyricist and humourist. His craft-drenched prog folk and psychedelic storytelling make for a compelling combination. Born in 1980 in Burnie, Tasmania, he recorded his first CD in 1999 and moved to Canberra. He recorded his first album the following year and in 2001 made the ACT finals of Raw Comedy.
Heazlewood took on the Bedroom Philospher persona in 2002and moved to Melbournein 2004 where he attracted favourable reviews in the Melbourne International Comedy Fesitval. In 2005 his hit single I’m So Post Modern raced up the charts and for the last two years he has been in constant demand to perform nationally.
The Nelson Twins
Raised in the backblocks of rural NSW, The Nelson Twins are used to sideways looks from strangers and family alike.
“It
wasn’t easy being the only four year olds at kindergarten with full
grown beards” says Chris Nelson, the younger half of Australia’s only
identical twin comedians.
They discovered show-biz early thanks to their parents selling them off to a travelling circus.
After
growing to big to pass for bearded female dwarfs, they found themselves
playing Ned Kelly on alternative nights at the Glenrowan Museum Theme
Park Hotel. Impersonating homeless people paid the bills for
a while but there’s only so long you can urinate in your own pants
before the novelty wears off.
But it was living as homeless
people that they got to meet other stand up comedians who inspired them
to take to the stage. They may have been lying in the gutter but they
were definitely looking at the stars (whatever that means).
The Nelson twins hope to one day be as famous as Paddy and Selma from the Simpsons.
What the Nelson twins have done since getting off the street:
Performed stand-up on the NRL Footy Show
Performed at all the major comedy venues across Australia including Comedy on the Rox
Appeared half naked in TV commercials for Canadian Club Whiskey
Appeared on American TV show ‘Last Comic Standing’
Tom Ballard (V)
Ever since he played the role of Blitzen in a local amateur production of Rock'n'Roll Santa back in 1997 in his home town of Warrnambool, Tom Ballard's comedy career has been on a steady decline. Having overcome serious sex and chocolate milk addictions at 14, Ballard managed to become a three-time Class Clowns National Finalist and a RAW National Finalist by 2006.
On the strength of his RAW performance, Tom was offered work with national youth radio network, triple j.
Having presented the Summer Lunch slot over the summer of 2008/2009, he now presents Weekend Breakfast with his silly friend, Alex Dyson.
At the age of 19, Tom has performed at numerous venues around the country, has supported the likes of Charlie Pickering and Fiona O'Loughlin and is a regular at Melbourne's Local Laughs and Spleen Bar.
He has been invited to perform at prestigious venues such as Comedy on the Rox, The Mic in Hand in Melbourne, the Sydney Comedy Store and Brisbane Powerhouse. He has been chosen to perform as a feature act at RAW Comedy finals, he was part of the star-studded Young Blood Comedy Tours in 2007 and 2008 and was a guest performer in the 2007 Melbourne Comedy Festival's Eskimo Jokes show.
Tom was selected to perform in Candlelight Productions' Squeaky Clean Comedy show at Chapel off Chapel in 2008 and he has made guest appearances on Studio A, The Comic Box and ABC 774's The Conversation Hour.
Tom was one quarter of the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival's Comedy Zone, a showcase of the best up and coming talent in the country as selected by the festival. The Melbourne Age described him as "lanky".
In April, Tom brought his debut solo show, Tom Ballard Is What He Is to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and was the youngest person EVER to take out the prestigious Melbourne Airport Best Newcomer award. Is What He Is was also nominated for a Golden Gibbo Award; an award that recognizes independent shows that "buck trends and pursue the artist's ideas more strongly than it puruses any commercial lure".
In 2009 Tom performed at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal and then on to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He brought a brand new stand-up show to the 2009 Melbourne Fringe Festival in September.
La-di-dah.
Tom's mum thinks he's quite funny, but wishes he wouldn't swear quite as much as he does.
"Watch this boy: he's going places" - The Age
Tom Oakley
His endearing style as a comedian must make women want to rip off theirshoes and imagine a number of fantasies where Tom Oakley rescues our tired feet fromthe daily grind of getting around.
Tom muses on life, love and the trials of being a podiatrist in abrutal modern world. His life highlights included puking in Zac Braff's gardenafter a big night on the grog, spilling a drink on Ben Affleck, sharing a Pimmsand Ginger Ale with the Prince of Wales and once being called "Mate"by Bill Clinton at a youth volunteer presentation in Chicago to which he wasnot invited.

Trevor Crook
Trevor Crook is a local boy who has made it really big in Britain.
Relatively unknown in Australia, Crook is one of the biggest names in British comedy.
Beginning his career at the Harold Park Hotel in 1991, Crook quickly made his mark with his laconic, laidback, deadpan sense of humour which is often self-deprecating.
With 18 months he was a headliner on the Sydney circuit and a regular performer on TV shows such as the Midday Show.
After wowing the British public at the 1996 Edinburgh Comedy Festival, Crook began to work extensively in England and Europe.
Today the stunningly funny Crook is a regular on BBC radio and British TV and plays to packed houses from Norway to France, Holland to China and most countries in between.
Crook returns to Australia every four months.
Wayne Dixon
Wayne Dixon made his comedy debut at the Star & Garter in the 1999 Triple J Raw Comedy Competition. He made it through to the State final and since has continued making people laugh. With his unique blend of charm, likeability, intelligence and sometimes idiocy, it's hard for anyone not to fall in love with this larrikin - or at least buy him a beer.
Wayne has been earning his stripes since then. In 2002, he won the FHM Joke Off in front of thousands of people on the comedy stage at the M-1 concert in Melbourne in addition to being voted Funniest Bloke in Australia by Austereo listeners nationwide. This sparked the interest of the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and scored Wayne his prestigious position in the 2003 Comedy Zone, a Comedy Festival produced showcase of carefully selected fresh Australian talent. As a result of his consistently impressive performance during this show, Wayne toured Australia as part of the renowned Melbourne Comedy Festival Road Show, representing Australia alongside international acts such as Daniel Kitson, Danny Bhoy and Lee Mack.
For the 2004 Comedy Festival, Wayne teamed up with comics Geraldine Hickey and Harley Breen to create A Harley shaped Hickey called Wayne, a risk-taking show which cleverly blended stand-up and improvised comedy and received rave reviews. These 3 comics then went on to form the core of the impro group Cut & Paste who regularly perform sold out shows in Melbourne. 2005 saw Wayne embark on his first solo Comedy Festival, Citizen Wayne. His popularity amongst both peers and punters of the Melbourne comedy scene was unmistakable during this venture, and Wayne received warm responses at every show.
This young fella has worked with all of Australia's best-known comics as well as many international acts, and performed in the best comedy venues in Australia. However, after relocating in late 2005, Wayne can be found mainly in the comedy pastures of Sydney. He is 26, allergic to boredom and has successfully completed a Bachelor of Music at the University of Melbourne and holds a certificate IV in Small Business Management.
